The Ballets
Circus, circa 1900
Ballet for Young Audiences' director/choreographer Edwin Kinter gathered a group of young, upcoming choreographers together, and they created "Circus, Circa 1900", loosely based on the classic story Toby Tyler. The idea of a runaway child is as relevant in 2000 as it was in 1900.
The ballet is colorful and exciting featuring clowns, acrobats, jugglers, a tightrope walker, a magician, and a beautiful lion tamer. Billy the runaway child finds that all that glitters is not gold and in the end returns to his grieving mother. As the troupe pulls up stakes and prepares to move on Billy is not the only one they leave behind.
The musical score is as bright as the balloons and features classics by Rossini and Khatchaturian. This is family fun for all.
Jungle Book
Jungle Book is an exciting production based on Rudyard Kipling's tales of a man-cub adopted by a family of wolves and raised in the jungles of India. Baloo, the wise brown bear, Bagheera, the black panther and Kaa, the python, become his teachers as he experiences a world no other human child has ever known. We're also introduced to Shere Kahn, the man eating tiger, demon of the jungle and Buldeho, the greedy human hunter-thief. Here too are the mischievous monkeys and a hidden treasure. Finally Mowgli the man-cub is reunited with his human mother and then, when he meets the lovely Mahala, he must choose between remaining in the animal world or returning to the world of humankind.
The story of Jungle Book is told through dance, narration and an exciting musical score composed by Rimsky-Korsakov. Edwin Kinter, Director/Choreographer of Ballet for Young Audiences, conceived and choreographed the production. Imaginative masks and costumes help to transport the audience to far away exotic India.
